The makers of “Pelli Choopulu” are very much busy with the promotions. The film is releasing on 29th July. The film’s cast and crew were busy in interacting with media. Today, Cinebucket had a conversation with the film’s leading lady Ritu Varma. She spoke about the film, acting, promotions and many more things. Check it out!
How did Pelli Choopulu happen?
The film’s director Tharun and I worked in the past for the short film “Anukokunda.” So, he always had me in mind for the role Chitra. I love to work with Tharun because I know he comes with a unique concept every time. I completely trusted him that he would make a different film. That’s how it happened.
Any similarities between Ritu & Chitra?
I think there are a lot. When Tharun narrated me the script and my role, I was easily connected to it. I think a lot of girls will definitely find a connection with Chitra as they see themselves in her. Chitra is very well planned, determined and strong woman who had big plans. We see such girls around us too. When it comes to me, I don’t plan much in life. I never thought of becoming an actress as it just happened. But if I take up something, I’m very organised, dedicated and focused.
How is Pelli Choopulu different from your previous films?
It is a fresh story. The film is about a guy who is an aspiring chef and a girl who is an aspiring business-woman. The characters in the film were portrayed in a different manner. The film has all the elements that will impress any kind of audiences. The way my role was designed is also completely different.
Did you learn anything from the character in the film?
Yes, that’s from Prashanth character. He is very passionate about what he wanted to do. I liked that role.
Any fun incidents from the sets?
There are plenty. Tharun is a like a standout comedian. He cranks a lot of jokes and is good at pulling legs. It was fun shooting for the film.
You look very simple and beautiful in the film. You are different in Pelli Choopulu when compared with your on-screen look from the previous films. How did this happen? Was it a planned thing?
Many complimented me for the same. I think the dressing was different in the film when compared with my previous films. There wasn’t much make up and even the clothes were simple. I look like a girl-next-door and I honestly feel that the girls these days are living like that. All credit goes to Tharun because he made sure that people get connected to my character very well. Even in my real life, I don’t dress-up much while going out. I love to stay simple.
There was no dubbing for the film as the film was shot in sync sound. We heard you have put extra effort to work on your lines. Tell us about that?
As we made the film in sync sound, we could not take a lot of takes. I tried my best to deliver my lines properly. Even though I dubbed for my previous films, I am not a huge fan of the process as it appears artificial for me. It is not very easy to recreate the same situation and emotion once again.
Is there any challenging/tough scene in the film?
There is a scene which is very close to my heart. The emotional scene between Chitra and her father is my favourite. I’m very attached to my father and not a girl who gets emotional very easily. Generally, I use glycerine for the emotional scenes but especially for this particular scene, I avoided it. The dialogues are so natural and beautiful that tears started rolling down. automatically.
The film was screened to so many people before the release. What were your feelings like when you came across the idea?
Frankly speaking, I was very tensed about this strategy but happy now that it worked for us. I hadn’t watched the film till last Sunday but before that many people started calling me and appreciating me. I usually had the habit to watch the film on the release day but I was so much tempted to see it before the release. I took my parents also to the film. I have been watching their reactions for all the scenes and they are very proud of watching the other side of me in the film. My mom and dad thoroughly enjoyed Pelli Choopulu.
What’s the best compliment you’ve received so far?
I’ve received many. Everyone is genuinely spreading the good word about the film. I was always sure that the film will come out as a good film. I was confident about the talent and work of Tharun. But the response that is coming out currently was unbelievable that Tharun was also surprised. We are enjoying it.
Tell us about sharing screen with Vijay and acting in Tharun’s direction.
Vijay is a great actor. While performing, he reacts very naturally and I could only see Prashanth in him. We wanted to make every scene better with our performance. Tharun is a person who doesn’t force an actor to perform in a particular way. He gives us freedom and for an actor, that is very important.
Tell us about the Producers.
Kudos to both Raj sir and Yash sir. Without them, this could not have been possible. Both the producers made us feel comfortable and treated us like their family. They gave a lot of freedom to the director and all the other technicians. With Suresh Babu sir coming on board, the film has reached to the next level.
Are you satisfied with your career as an actress?
Yes, I am very happy with what I have done so far. I am really glad to be a part of some very good films which are not regular types. I acted in films like Prema Ishq Kaadal, Yevade Subrahmanyam and now Pelli Choopulu. All these films gave me a lot of satisfaction.
What are your upcoming projects?
I haven’t signed anything yet. I’m getting a lot of offers but I am just waiting for the release of my film. I will be more careful in selecting the scripts from now.
Team #CineBucket wishes a great success to Ritu Varma and the entire team of #Pelli Choopulu.
