The makers of “Pelli Choopulu” are very much busy with the promotions. The film is releasing on 29th July. The film’s cast and crew were busy in interacting with media. Today, Cinebucket had a very long conversation with the film’s producer Yash Rangineni, who looks stylish by his looks. The stylish producer had a lot of things to say about the film. He spoke about the film, production, promotions and many more things.
Tell us about your background.
Pelli Choopulu is my first film. I am a UK citizen. I left India 25 years back. I did my MBA in London. I set up my own business of Real Estate at UK. I am also serving as the director for UK National Health Services which is one of the biggest organisations in the entire Europe. I am from Mahaboobnagar district.
Tell us about your love for films.
I love to watch a lot of films. In childhood, I acted in various plays at school. My grandfather, a Zamindaar made me act in plays every year. I always had a special interest towards films. I never took it seriously because my family had several other expectations on me. So, I left to UK for my Masters and settled there. Apart from films, I play a lot of cricket. I play for Kent League in London.
So, Are you interested in acting? You look stylish and will suit for the antagonist roles. Have you ever thought of giving it a shot?
(laughs..) Yeah, I wanted to act. But none approached me so far. If anyone approaches me with a role which suits my current looks and age, then I’ll do it.
Who approached with Pelli Choopulu script first?
Raj Kandukuri (the other producer of the film) is my good friend. He is into films from the past ten years. Every time when he come to London, we used to meet and discuss a lot of things about films. He always encouraged me to get into film production but none of the scripts I’ve come across in the past impressed me. One day, Raj suggested me to look at the script of Pelli Choopulu. I was very much impressed and spoke to Tharun Bhascker (the director of the film). Tharun gave me a narration for almost one and half hour over phone. I was listening to him on my way to work place. I was so much involved in the script that I forgot the way and took the wrong direction. He amazed me with his narration and I got confidence that this is going to work and collaborated with Raj.
What is that single point that convinced you to produce Pelli Choopulu?
It is the story that impressed me. I am connected to all the characters in the story and believed that everyone feels the same because this story happens in everyone’s home. So, that realistic approach made me to produce the film. Moreover, I have been watching the previous works of Tharun Bhascker and his Vinoothna Geetha team. He is going to have a bright future in the film industry.
Isn’t it a risk to produce a film with new comers?
Ofcourse, it is. Many of my well-wishers have been telling me not to waste my hard earned money on this Short film batch. They are right in their view but I am not convinced with them. I am sure the content of the film will get appreciations from everyone. I discarded all the advises and took a step forward for taking this risk. But the appreciations coming now proves that the risk is worth it. People who advised me not to produce the film have watched it and took their words back. I’m happy now!
Are you satisfied as a producer?
Yes. I am completely happy and satisfied that Pelli Choopulu was made by me. I am confident now to say that the film is going to become a very big hit. The film has a unique concept and the way Tharun executed it is extremely satisfactory.
How did you manage production? Wasn’t it difficult to manage things from London?
Raj was here taking care of the production activities. But I made sure that I was also informed about all the things progressing here in Hyderabad. On every working day, I was available for the team here over phone. I also planned weekend discussions over Skype. I, Raj, Tharun, PR Tanvi and other main people discussed over the shoot, the requirements and proceeded accordingly. We also have a Whatsapp group where the executive producer gives the day-to-day shoot updates. Probably, we finished this film by making maximum use of Social Media.
How did you plan budget for the film? What were your conversations/discussions like with Raj Kandukuri regarding the making of Pelli Choopulu?
Budget is very important for the film. After the project was confirmed, I and Raj called Tharun and discussed with him about budget. I and Raj allocated some extra budget to use it when money was in need in unexpected situations. Sometimes, we had to pay rent for some locations as we did not expect that in the beginning. Over all, we are happy by completing the film in less budget. Even though, we spent less on the film, we never compromised on the quality. Tharun also came up with a unique production software where everything was planned and executed perfectly. I must appreciate Tharun and his team for that.
For a new producer like you, how was the support coming in from film industry?
All I can say is that the support was tremendous. People like Suresh Babu garu, Madhura Sridhar garu and others are very co-operative. We are all overwhelmed with the support from the film industry and looking forward to make more films.
Tell us about the strategy you have been following for the film’s promotions.
Suresh Babu garu helped us a lot in the promotions of the film. His idea was to screen the film even before the film release. Initially I was worried but finally we are successful in it. Because of the good content our team delivered, our film was declared a hit by all the people who watched it in the last few days. We also received amazing response from all the people in Vijayawada too at the special show!
Tell us about the lead actors of the film!
Vijay Devarakonda was terrific as Prashanth. He already made a mark with his performance in the film Yevade Subrahmanyam. He played the character Prashanth very well in Pelli Choopulu. Even Ritu Varma also acted well. She is not a Telugu girl but still worked hard on getting her Telugu lines proper. Priyadarshi will be a major highlight in the film. All the other actors did well.
Are you producing any other films after the release of Pelli Choopulu?
I heard a couple of interesting scripts and wanted to make them but I was not shifted to India completely. I will announce my next film very soon.
